The Start of My Writing Journey

My interest in writing had bloomed when I was rather young. In grade school we were assigned a project where we needed to write and illustrate our own story books. I was excited for the creative outlet and enjoyed the project. I remember I had come up with a story about jungle animals who were unlikely friends, having to save each other due to a flood. I didn’t particularly think much of the book I had created but I was satisfied with the finished project. Little did I know my school would submit my work to a contest within the state. I had been picked to take a trip to a university to meet the author of a particular child’s books, Peter rabbit. I don’t recall all of the happening but I do recall meeting with other students who had been selected, reading each of our books out loud. I also recall listen to Beatrix Potter speak and read to us. The whole experience was quiet fascinating, I was in complete awe.
As I had become older my writing turned more emotion within the form of poetry. I had enjoyed romantic poetry, impressed with the emotions carried across with few selected words. I would often write poems to express my darker emotions. I would look to submit my work online wanting to share what I thought was decent poetry. Finally I did submit to a company that published a collection of works every year in a large hard back. They decided they wish to publish my short poem with the latest issue, I was thrilled. Although sadden I could not afford a copy of the book, which I believe was about fifty dollars, give or take. So somewhere out in the world is a poem written by young me resting with the pages of a book of poetry.
Today I still hold a soft spot for poetry, although I hold a dream of writing a novel. After developing as a reader my particular interest of what I enjoyed became apparent. I relished romance, fantasy, the paranormal, mystical worlds, and mythology. Reading of the monsters that bummed in the night and the fierce, warrior women who loved them is what excited me. The heroine who oozes sass and knows how to kick some ass. The compelling worlds where fairies, dragons, demons, and vampires could exist, that is the realm I desired to write within.
Though my many flaws have prevented me from actively pursuing writing, I am not the best with spelling or grammar; I would consider myself fair within the tasks. I can and will make mistakes, which is one of the reason I desire to obtain an English degree; to improve my editing skills. I also have trouble developing characters, or writing dialogue. But it has always been in the back of my mind that I would write a book one day.
I will write a new blog post every so often to update my writing efforts, but started with one of the deadly sins poems; lust. I wrote from the perspective of a woman, being that I am most familiar with said view. I also thought it would quite interesting to look upon a sin such as lust from a feminized view then from a more masculine perspective.
Sin; LUST
Her desire was carnal,
Erotic in nature.
Her longing eternal for this man, this creature.
The excitement felt dire with a rush of passion.
She needed his touch, to see his reaction.
With a kiss it was sealed.
Her sexual hunger revealed.
I was not sure if I wanted to add more to the poem or not; although the more I review the work, the more I want itto continue. I may add more within the future, as well as more on the other deadly sin poems.
I appreciate ideas for prompts or if you would like discuss more on writing respond with comments or emails. I would love to hear what you may be writing yourself as well.
